Resilient recovery of the mountain areas of the Emilia Romagna Region.
The pilot experience of Modigliana
Modigliana Today
Following the flood events of May 2023 until the more recent one in September 2024, Modigliana suffered severe damage as testified by the hundreds landslides that now characterized its ruined landscape. The river that passes through the town centre looks frightening at each intense precipitation event. I cittadini insieme ai professionisti e ai ricercatori locali e del Politecnico di Milano si interrogano su come ricostruire, su come pianificare per rendere questo territorio più sicuro e mantenervi servizi, opportunità, lavoro.
Future Modigliana
How Modigliana will look like in the future? This is the core of the participatory project initiated by a group of researchers of the Politecnico di Milano led by Alessandra Zanelli, who is both professor at the Politecnico and citizen of Modigliana. Throughout a series of activities we aim at delivering a project of a more resilient town, in order to reduce risks, to become better prepared to manage them. We strive towards a more sustainable community and urban environment aware of existing natural hazards and increasing climate change impacts.
For and With the Citizens
We held a firts seminar with citizens on the 8th of March 2024. We have delivered a report that illustrates the results of the three participatory round tables. The latter were tackling: ideas for the future of Modigliana, risk awareness and knowledge, critical infrastructures. We are developing a series of new events to continue the co-design of the future of Modigliana through a more resilient recovery that will not only rebuild damaged infrastructures but will create more differentiated development opportunities, also in the light of environmental and social changes ahead.
